FOUNDER’S BLOG

From the keyboard of founder Kevin Vermaak – his stories, chronicling the journey of Nedbank Gravel Burn. To hear how he built the Cape Epic and plans to do the same with Nedbank Gravel Burn, check out Escape Collective’s podcast.

Building a brand image for a new international sports event is no easy task, but with the help of our friends at Open Cycles it was far easier this time round. Now we are partnering with them to create a bike optimised for gravel.
With all the humdrum at the end of Nedbank Gravel Burn 2025, the incredible accomplishments of three epic riders went under the radar. We want to set that right.
The path taken to create Nedbank Gravel Burn was the path less traveled, but that was the whole point. Through the incredible ups and the lessons learnt, we think that the journey has been worthwhile, and we aren't even done yet.
6 weeks after the inaugural Nedbank Gravel Burn, Founder Kevin Vermaak reflects on the experience as well as the lessons learned.
Creating something new is always challenging and nerve-wracking, but a great team makes light work. Heres to you incredible lot!
With the very first Nedbank Gravel Burn race rapidly approaching, long time friends and supporters are coming out to join in.
