Nedbank Gravel Burn Welcomes Meerendal as Official Wine Partner

We are proud to welcome Meerendal Wine Estate as the exclusive and Official Wine Partner for the 2025 edition. The partnership brings together the raw adventure of the race and the refined craft of one of South Africa’s most respected winemakers, adding to the immersive experience and all-inclusive offering awaiting riders at the inaugural event in October.

As part of the experience, riders will spend each night at remote Burn Camps, with the serviced Lapas overseen by a dedicated Camp Master and Host. After each of what is sure to be seven unforgettable days in the saddle, they’ll gather around the fire to share stories with new and familiar faces, enjoying a curated selection of Meerendal’s fine wines, specially chosen for the event – a true taste of South Africa.

Meerendal Wine Estate is deeply rooted in South African cycling culture. Owner Herman Coertze credits Cape Epic founder – and now Nedbank Gravel Burn founder – Kevin Vermaak with igniting his passion for the sport. The two have been friends since agreeing to host the Cape Epic prologue at Meerendal in 2012. Soon after that, Coertze bought his first mountain bike, and in the years that followed, the surrounding trail network expanded to become home to some of the country’s most scenic and well-loved mountain biking destinations.

Nedbank Gravel Burn Founder Kevin Vermaak said: “This partnership is especially meaningful to me personally. Herman and I go way back – we even co-founded the Snow Epic in 2014. He has been a huge supporter of cycling and the culture that surrounds it, so it’s a natural fit to bring that spirit to Nedbank Gravel Burn. This isn’t just about offering the riders complimentary wine – our partnership is rooted in long-standing friendship, shared values and a mission to elevate the off-the-bike experience. Our Burn Camps are a space for recovery, celebration and sharing a great bottle of South African wine is part of that magic.”

Coertze adds: “We’re excited to be a part of this new chapter of cycling, especially as my wife and I take on the challenge together – we just bought our first gravel bikes. Sharing an adventure like this, across remote, beautiful landscapes and gathering under the stars each night is something truly special. We’re proud to bring a taste of Meerendal to riders from around the world.”
