The Great Karoo Calling – Nedbank Gravel Burn is an Adventure for All

This isn’t just a race; it’s an invitation to be part of a story, push boundaries, and connect—with fellow riders and the land we traverse, all against the spectacular backdrop of the Great Karoo. It’s an experience in which riders of all abilities, ages, and ambitions can truly immerse themselves. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, a weekend warrior, or someone itching for a new adventure, this is for you. Join us for an extraordinary journey where camaraderie, culture, and adventure meet.

Imagine the vast, arid landscapes, dramatic skies, and a special sense of stillness… riding through it—gravel crunching under your wheels, surrounded by your tribe, united by cycling. Some will race, some will ride steadily through the day, and others will simply revel in the scenery. Then, as the sun sets, everything changes—Burn Camp comes alive. Riders gather around the fire to share stories, reveling in Karoo culture, hospitality, and fare, all beneath stars brighter than you’ve ever seen. It’s the antidote to the day’s challenges and rivalries—countless stories told each night. That’s Nedbank Gravel Burn.

When it’s time to rest, the 2.5m x 2.5m Burn Camp tent offers a comfortable sanctuary, equipped with essentials like a camping bed, bedside table, charging station, and light—ensuring you’re well-rested for the day ahead.

If you’re wondering whether you’re “ready” for the challenge, the answer is simple: if you’re prepared, you’re more than capable of tackling the 7-day, 850km route. This race isn’t just for elite cyclists; it’s for anyone seeking adventure, wanting to test themselves, achieve a personal goal, or simply soak up the views and camaraderie.

Nedbank Gravel Burn stands out for its accessibility. Anyone who can ride is welcome. Most riders will be capable of finishing. For those who’d still like to compete, leader jerseys are awarded in five-year increments, ensuring fair competition within each age group.

Worried about cut-off times? Don’t be. The route and stage times are designed to be achievable for any prepared cyclist. And if you fall behind? You’ll still have the opportunity to ride the course and finish each stage. This is your adventure, your pace, and your chance to experience every dimension of this remarkable region.

As the inaugural event, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Years from now, we imagine Nedbank Gravel Burn as a global icon of gravel cycling. And when that day comes, you’ll be able to proudly say, “I was there at the beginning, blazing a new path across the Karoo.”
